What is a Candidate?

A “candidate” is a public affairs professional who has registered with the company and had an interview (either phone or in person) with one of our recruiters. Once the interview is held, the individual is designated a “candidate” and is eligible to be put forward for roles we are handling for our clients.

We only forward CVs of candidates we have interviewed, to our clients, as we want to ensure the best match and we learn a lot about you and your career aspirations during the interview.

How Do I Check if I'm Registered?
If you’ve had an interview with us – either by phone or in person, then you are a candidate.

If you receive the Job Alert! directly from the company, then you will be a candidate.

If you are unsure, either email recruitment@publicaffairs.com.au or call us on 1300 555 903 and we’ll quickly let you know.

When Do I Hear from You?
Our primary communication channel with all our candidates is the weekly Job Alert!  with information regarding the roles we are handling, professional development opportunities and other industry news. You will also hear from us if you have advised us of your interest in a role, if you turn up on a search and we ring to see if you are interested, if you are shortlisted for a role, when we are organising an interview for you, during any negotiations on your behalf with potential employers, to seek referee details and on any feedback or other queries you may call us about.

How Can I Improve My Chances?
The best way you can do this is by ensuring you have strong achievements in your CV that are: specific, measureable and preferably, third party endorsed. This is the key information that is going to be of interest to a prospective employer.

  • In the past, CVs were very general documents, however, if you are going through a recruitment agency, your CV is the only document they will usually see so you have to provide detailed information about achievements in each role you have held.

If you keep us updated about your availability and send in an updated CV when you are ready to move, you also stay top of mind.

Remember the key to all job searching is your availability, so if you let us know when your availability changes, it helps us to know when you are back “in the market”.

Update Your Details / CV
If you’ve been out of the market for a while, and are looking for another role, you may need to provide us with an updated CV.

Before you send it in to us, please re-read CV Tips and Hints to familiarise yourself with the importance of having strong achievements and then update your CV in our preferred format (which we know is a winner with clients) and email it to us at recruitment@publicaffairs.com.au, along with your current contact details.

Another Interview?
We take a strong interest in our candidates and their career progression.

Every 2-3 years or so, candidates will send us an updated CV and request another interview to update us about their new skills and experience.  We are always happy to meet with our candidates.

What Other Candidates Say
Please note: All feedback to the company is unsolicited.

“The opportunities that will come through TPARC will never come from any other avenue. I would not like to offend anyone at TPARC. I am concerned to maintain a good relationship with you. Everyone talks about you in the highest terms imaginable.” 21 February 2008

I really appreciate the personal attention.

“Thanks for this Karen, I really appreciate it. And thanks for being so kind and helpful. You truly run a magnificent business! I wish there were more of you around :)“ 15 January 2008

“You are the leading PR placement agency in town". 20 November 2007

“Thanks. Interesting feedback. I wonder why other agencies haven’t ever mentioned this.. I shall spend time in the next day or so adjusting my CV.” 21 August 2007

“Thank you so much for this. I’m so impressed with the service you offer and the contact we’ve already had.”
12 June 2007

“I just wanted to thank you and the Public Affairs Recruitment Company for helping me with my interview preparation a couple of weeks ago. I have returned from my week in Paris and I got the job. I pitched myself just right and was offered the job (at the top end of the salary offered) only hours after the interview. I’m very excited and very grateful for the work you did and the effort you put in – it really gave me the confidence to believe in myself.” 22 May 2007

“Thanks, Karen. I'd like to take this opportunity to provide some feedback on the service of your company.

I had an excellent initial interview with [recruiter], and felt extremely comfortable with her being my recruitment consultant. I was impressed on a personal basis, and also with her obvious knowledge of current trends in TPARC's recruitment niche. This was in stark contrast to my contact with another agency who purported to be a strong competitor in the same field.

I have also particularly appreciated the swift response to any emails or phone calls to TPARC.

Whether or not I find a role through your company, I will sing your praises as being an agency that communicates well with its candidates, and offers diverse roles through a range of government clients.

I have found your Job Alert newsletter to be an excellent medium to sift through a range of opportunities, and it is more encompassing than similar agency offerings. Other (larger) recruitment companies have not provided anywhere near the same amount of opportunities in which I would be interested.” 5 April 2007
